Church Background

Immanuel Chapel was founded in 1975 out of a desire to see the Gospel proclaimed in Upton. Founded as a congregational church, we have belonged to the denomination known as the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) since October 16, 2009. The name Immanuel means “God with us” from Matthew 1:23.

Our purpose is to stand on the Word of God alone which was “once delivered to the saints.” We hold to the ‘Reformed Faith’ which has been the historic faith of Machen, Warfield, Hodge, Kuyper, Knox, Calvin, Paul the Apostle, and Jesus Christ. The Reformed faith is not an addition to Christianity; it is Christianity in its most glorious and consistent form.

The Reformed faith can be described as an unshakable confidence in the Scriptures Alone (Sola Scriptura); which present the Gospel by Grace Alone (Sola Gratia) through Christ Alone (Solo Christo), Who must be received by Faith Alone (Solo Fide). The purpose of life is to enjoy the presence of God (Coram Deo) to the glory of God alone (Soli Deo Gloria), which is the will of God (Deo Volente).
